Economic Recovery
Due to COVID-19 and the subsequent government shutdowns of the economy, we’re witnessing arguably the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. I believe mass shutdowns were an overreaction, and that we could have adequately slowed the spread of the virus without obliterating American small businesses and jobs. Therefore, I support ending the mass shutdowns so that our economic recovery can begin, and I believe we can do this while implementing reasonable, voluntary safety measures that keep our most vulnerable safe, and our hospitals from being overwhelmed. To aid with the recovery, I believe the government should seriously evaluate their tax and regulation suspensions enacted to help during the emergency. If high taxes and burdensome regulations were impeding our ability to adapt during an emergency, then we need to assess if those taxes and regulations need to be restored moving forward.
